Ingredients

  • 1 stick unsalted butter 8 tablespoons, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard Dijon can be used
  • Juice from ½ a lemon + zest
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh chives
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika smoked or hot paprika recommended
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes or use hot sauce, or both!
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

As a Serving Sauce:

  • Melt the butter slowly in a pan.
  • Gently stir in the remaining ingredients until well combined.
  • Serve as a dipping sauce or spoon it over your dish.

As a Compound Butter:

  • Mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl.
  • Transfer the mixture to a layer of plastic wrap, forming it into the shape of a log about 1 inch in diameter.
  • Wrap the log in plastic and refrigerate until it hardens.
  • Slice and serve over grilled meats or veggies.

Notes

For extra heat, you can adjust the amount of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to your taste, or even add hot sauce.
Smoked paprika adds a deep, rich flavor, but you can use regular paprika if preferred.
The compound butter can be stored in the fridge for up to a week or frozen for up to three months, making it convenient for meal prep.
Feel free to experiment with different fresh herbs, like rosemary or cilantro, to customize the flavor.
When serving as a sauce, make sure not to overheat the butter, as it can separate if heated too quickly.
This butter works well not only on grilled meats and veggies but also as a flavorful spread for bread or a topping for baked potatoes.
