Ingredients

  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix or chocolate cake mix
  • 1 box 3.4 oz / 96 g instant chocolate pudding mix (dry)
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Optional Add-Ins

  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk for extra gooey texture

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Evenly sprinkle the dry cake mix over the bottom of the dish.
  • Sprinkle the dry instant pudding mix evenly on top of the cake mix.
  • Slowly pour the milk over the dry ingredients. Do not stir.
  • Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the surface.
  • Sprinkle the shredded coconut and chopped pecans evenly over the top.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the edges are set and the center is soft but not liquid.
  • Remove from the oven and let rest for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Do not stir the layers—this is essential for the dump cake texture.
  • The cake will be soft and gooey in the center; it sets more as it cools.
  • For extra richness, drizzle sweetened condensed milk over the milk layer before baking.
  • Serve warm for best flavor and texture.
