- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup sugar for syrup
- 1/2 cup water for syrup
- Juice of 1 lemon for syrup
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch cake pan.
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
Gradually mix in flour and baking powder, alternating with milk.
Pour batter into the pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
Prepare syrup by boiling sugar, water, and lemon juice until the sugar dissolves.
Poke holes in the warm cake and pour syrup evenly over the top.
Allow the cake to absorb the syrup before serving.
