The Art of Twisting: Mastering the Technique

Creating the perfect twist is key to achieving that signature appearance and texture of Bread with cheese twists. Start by rolling out the dough into a rectangular shape, then generously sprinkle grated cheese and herbs of your choice. Next, carefully fold the dough in half to encase the filling before cutting it into strips. Finally, twist each strip gently to form the classic twisted shape before baking to golden perfection.

Ingredients You’ll Need

To embark on your cheese twisted bread journey, gather the following ingredients:

  • Dough: Flour, yeast, water, salt, sugar, olive oil
  • Cheese: Cheddar, mozzarella, Parmesan, or your preferred cheese blend
  • Herbs: Fresh or dried herbs such as oregano, basil, or rosemary
  • Optional Additions: Garlic powder, onion powder, chili flakes for added flavor

Step-by-Step Recipe Guide

Mixing the Dough

  1. Prepare the Yeast: Activate the yeast by dissolving it in warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, olive oil, and activated yeast mixture. Knead until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Proofing: Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.

Filling and Twisting

  1. Rolling Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  2. Adding the Cheese: Sprinkle grated cheese and herbs evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  3. Forming Twists: Fold the dough in half to cover the filling, then cut it into strips. Twist each strip gently and place them on a baking sheet.

Baking to Perfection

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and let the twisted bread rise for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  2. Bake: Bake the twisted bread for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and fragrant.
  3. Serve and Enjoy: Allow the cheese twisted bread to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it warm with your favorite dips or as a standalone snack.
